Postdoctoral Research Associate: The Laboratory of Metalloprotein Biology at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences, led by Dr. Kevin Waldron, is seeking a highly motivated and creative Postdoctoral Research Associate. The position involves exploring the structure, function, and evolution of iron- or manganese-dependent superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzymes, focusing on their role at the host-pathogen interface. This collaborative research is funded by the National Institutes of Health (R01 AI155611) and involves interdisciplinary work with Dr. Thomas Kehl-Fie’s laboratory at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, USA.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A PhD in biochemistry or a related field (no limit on years post-PhD completion).
  • Proven track record of publishing high-quality research.
  • Demonstrable passion for science and research.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, including training junior researchers.
  • Hands-on experience in biochemistry methods.
  • Solid knowledge of molecular biology techniques.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Experience with metalloproteins and X-ray crystallography is advantageous but not mandatory.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct laboratory-based research, including the expression, purification, and characterization of SOD enzymes.
  • Perform mutagenesis and structural analyses to assess enzyme molecular structure and biochemical function.
  • Collaborate with international research groups to develop novel methods for studying metalloenzymes.
  • Receive training in relevant protocols and techniques.
