Postdoctoral Position in Fungal Metabolomics: The Liao Lab at Dartmouth College is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to lead innovative research in fungal metabolomics. This position offers an excellent opportunity for fungal biologists with an experimental background who wish to expand their expertise in computational biology. The selected candidate will receive strong mentorship, technical training, and career development support.
Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher
Research Area: Fungal Metabolomics, Mass Spectrometry, Computational Biology
Location: Dartmouth College, Hanover/Lebanon, NH, USA
Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD (or near completion) in mycology, microbiology, or a related field
- Ability to work independently and in collaborative teams, including undergraduate and graduate students
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable but not mandatory:
- Mass spectrometry (GC/MS, LC/MS, etc.)
- Coding skills in Python
- Mouse gut colonization model
- A strong passion for learning new skills, particularly in computational metabolomics
Job Description:
The postdoctoral researcher will work on developing mass spectrometry-based technologies for untargeted metabolite profiling and metabolic flux analysis in fungal cells. The research will focus on metabolic rewiring in fungal pathogens such as Candida albicans, Candida parapsilosis, and Aspergillus fumigatus. Key research questions include:
- What differentiates fungal strains that cause infections from those that remain environmental?
- How does C. albicans reprogram its metabolic network during yeast-to-hyphae transition?
- How do antifungal-resistant pathogens rewire metabolic pathways to mitigate fitness costs?
The researcher will actively engage in interdisciplinary collaborations with programs such as the Microbiology and Molecular Pathogenesis Program, Dartmouth Cancer Center, and DartCF Cystic Fibrosis Center. The candidate will also have opportunities to collaborate with distinguished faculty members in fungal research.
How to Apply:
Interested candidates should send the following materials to chen.liao@dartmouth.edu:
- Cover letter
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Names and contact information of three references
Last Date for Apply: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
