Postdoc Position at Eawag, Swiss Federal Institute, Switzerland

PhD Fellowship IN Switzerland

Postdoc Position at Eawag: Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is seeking a Postdoc to model genetic susceptibility to chemicals impacting biodiversity. This role is crucial for protecting genetic variability in ecosystems and ensuring their resilience against chemical exposure.

Title: Postdoc Position to Predict Genetic Susceptibility to Chemicals in Environmentally-Relevant Species

Designation:
Postdoctoral Researcher (m/w/d)

ParameterDetails
Research AreaEnvironmental Toxicology
LocationEawag, Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology
Eligibility/QualificationPhD in Environmental Sciences, Toxicology, Bioinformatics, or related field; programming experience in R or Python preferred, along with strong English communication skills. Experience in geospatial analysis and big data management is beneficial. Knowledge of genetics is an asset.

Job Description:
The postdoc will investigate the relationship between genetic susceptibility to chemicals and adverse outcomes in various species. The role involves:

  • Curating and integrating diverse data sources related to chemical toxicity, spatial chemical use, genetic variation, and species occurrence.
  • Utilizing computational methods to model genetic susceptibility, including adverse outcome pathway (AOP)-based approaches and gene-environment association methods.
  • Focusing initially on pesticide-induced neurotoxicity in Danio rerio (zebrafish) and Caenorhabditis elegans (roundworm) before expanding the models to less-studied species.
  • Developing new ideas and methods for predicting genetic susceptibility.

How to Apply:
Interested candidates should send a comprehensive application, including:

  • A cover letter detailing research background and motivation.
  • A CV with a list of publications.
  • Copies of academic qualifications.
  • Contact information for two references.
