Postdoctoral Researcher in Nanophotonics: The University of Amsterdam’s 2D Nanophotonics group is seeking a highly motivated physicist for a postdoctoral research position. This role focuses on the project “Excitonic 2D metasurfaces for active multifunctional flat optics,” utilizing exciton resonances in monolayer 2D semiconductors to dynamically tune the optical response of metasurfaces.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • A PhD degree in physics.
  • Strong background in experimental nanophotonics.
  • Proven track record of publications in the field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Additional Skills (Preferred)

  • Experience in 2D material (device) physics.
  • Previous experience in optics lab or cleanroom nanofabrication.
  • Proficiency with programming and modeling software (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Comsol, Lumerical).

Job Description

In this three-year project, you will:

  • Conduct fundamental research on using monolayer 2D van der Waals materials in optical metasurfaces.
  • Fabricate optical metasurfaces and nanoscale devices in the cleanroom of the AMOLF NanoLab.
  • Design and perform high-sensitivity optical and electronic experiments at cryogenic temperatures.
  • Develop theory and computer simulations to support experiments.
  • Present research findings at international workshops and conferences.
  • Collaborate with group members, as well as with internal and international collaborators.
  • Participate in teaching efforts, including supervision of bachelor’s and master’s students.
