PhD Position on Iron-Based Powders as Sustainable Energy Carriers

Designation

PhD Candidate in Sustainable Energy Research

FieldDetails
Research AreaIron-based powders for renewable energy
LocationMax Planck Institute for Sustainable Materials, Germany (collaboration with UC Louvain, Belgium and TU Delft, Netherlands)
Duration3 years (with possibility for extension)

Eligibility/Qualification

  • A master’s degree (or equivalent) in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
  • Must fulfill the TU Delft Graduate Schools Admission requirements.
  • Proficiency in English (communicative and writing skills).

Description

The PhD project aims to investigate the thermodynamic properties and reduction kinetics of iron powders, focusing on their application in sustainable energy cycles. The candidate will develop models to predict phase stability, perform experimental work using hydrogen-based direct reduction techniques, and characterize microstructures through advanced microscopy techniques. The ultimate objective is to correlate alloying elements, microstructure, and reaction kinetics to enhance the efficiency of iron’s redox cycles while integrating waste materials into future energy solutions.

Key Tasks Include:

  • Developing thermodynamic models.
  • Conducting reduction experiments and characterization.
  • Analyzing results and managing collaborative projects.
  • Publishing findings in international journals and conferences.
