PhD Position (University Assistant – Predoctoral): The University of Vienna is seeking a qualified candidate for a 3-year PhD position focused on archeofaunal analyses within the framework of an ERC-Starting Grant project titled “Unveiling the Shadows: Illuminating Late Pleistocene Human-Carnivore Interaction (SHADOWS).” This position is an opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of bioarchaeology, paleoecology, and evolutionary anthropology.

Eligibility/Qualification
- Master’s Degree: Required in Archeology, Anthropology, or a similar field.
- Experience: A background in archeofaunal analyses is essential.

- Additional Skills: Experience in proteomics is appreciated but not mandatory.
Description
The PhD candidate will be responsible for:
- Characterizing Pleistocene faunal assemblages using archeofaunal methods.
- Conducting ZooMS (Zooarchaeology by Mass Spectrometry) analyses.
- Performing taphonomic analyses on Late Pleistocene collections from the Cantabrian region.
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team focused on Pleistocene fauna diversity and human-carnivore interaction patterns.
