Eligibility/Qualification
- Academic Background: Relevant backgrounds in Structural engineering, Mechanical engineering, Computational mechanics, Materials physics, or Materials technology.
- Master’s Degree: A completed Master’s degree corresponding to 120 credits at the master’s level. Master’s students can apply but must document completion by October 1.
- Grade Requirement: Average grade of B or better in Master’s studies or equivalent.
- PhD Admission: Must meet requirements for admission to the PhD Programme in Engineering.
- Language Proficiency: Fluent in spoken and written English.
Description
This PhD position focuses on understanding internal deformation mechanisms of additively manufactured materials through advanced experimental techniques, numerical simulations, and machine learning. The research will involve:
- CAD and 3D printing of architectured metamaterials
- Numerical modeling and simulation of shock and impact behavior
- Experimental work using X-ray techniques for 3D reconstruction of deformed samples
- Development of high-fidelity 3D renderings to uncover microstructural effects influencing mechanical behavior
- Collaboration with research teams and participation in academic publications and international conferences.
