Description

The CLIMASAT project aims to investigate the production and use of satellite data in seismology from the 1970s to the 2000s. The selected candidate will study the historical context and technological developments within the realm of satellite monitoring and its impact on data management, research practices, and power dynamics in environmental sciences. The dissertation will address various themes, including the commercialization of data, the politics of scale, and the relationship between technology and scientific practices in monitoring seismic and volcanic activity.

The PhD position is a full-time, 4-year commitment with no teaching obligations. The candidate will collaborate closely with the project supervisors and research teams, participate in joint publications, and engage in scientific community activities such as conferences and workshops.
