Research Area
The project aims to mechanistically understand foraging mechanisms in phagotrophic flagellates and explore their role in early eukaryotic evolution. Additionally, it investigates the role of flagellates in the ocean’s microbiome.
Eligibility/Qualification
- PhD degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (Biology or Physics).
- Experience with microscopy and flagellate ecology, or background in computational fluid physics with an interest in low Reynolds number biological flows.
Job Description
The successful candidate will:
- Maintain cultures of phagotrophic flagellates.
- Conduct live imaging of foraging and swimming using high-speed video microscopy.
- Interpret 2D projections to create 3D models of motility patterns.
- Perform experiments on foraging capacity and prey selectivity.
- Conduct formal fluid mechanical analyses, including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
The role involves supervising BSc and MSc student projects.
