Research Fellow in Forest Methane Modelling: The University of Birmingham invites applications for a Research Fellow to join the DefMet project, exploring the role of tropical deforestation in atmospheric methane changes. Eligibility / Qualification:

Essential:

  • PhD (or near completion) in a numerate scientific discipline
  • Strong experience in ecological modelling
  • Proficiency in computer programming (C++ advantageous)
  • Excellent communication skills in English

Desirable:

  • Understanding of forest ecophysiology and methane cycle dynamics
  • Experience in forest or land-surface modelling

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply LPJ-GUESS model for methane dynamics in upland trees
  • Incorporate empirical data from tropical forest field studies (e.g., Ghana)
  • Analyse datasets and lead the writing of peer-reviewed scientific publications
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of modelers and field ecologists
  • Present findings at national and international conferences and workshops
  • Contribute to research project administration and communication
  • Supervise and guide PhD students and research assistants as appropriate
  • Innovate and improve modelling techniques and methodologies
