Research Area

The research will focus on studying the diversity and biogeography of plasmids within marine systems, utilizing computational methods combined with an option for wet-lab translations.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • PhD in microbiology, microbial ecology, bioinformatics, or other relevant fields
  • Track record of scientific productivity with publications in international journals
  • Comprehensive understanding of plasmids and mobile genetic elements
  • Experience with ‘omics data types and strategies
  • Fluency in UNIX terminal environment and managing large datasets
  • Good command of English (approximately CEFR level C1)

Job Description

  • Develop workflows to recover plasmids from marine metagenomes and organize them into plasmid systems.
  • Compare plasmid genomes from marine systems and other biomes.
  • Identify auxiliary metabolic genes within plasmids and assess their contribution to microbial metabolism and environmental responses.
  • Engage with a diverse group of international scientists and contribute to a collaborative research environment.
