Research Fellow in London: The UCL GOS Institute of Child Health is seeking a dedicated Research Fellow to participate in a groundbreaking project under the Severe Presentation of Infectious Disease (SPID) Genomic Network of Excellence funded by NHS England. This role focuses on utilizing novel genomic technologies to enhance the understanding and management of life-threatening infectious diseases.

Research Area:
Molecular Biology and Genomics, specifically in infectious disease diagnostics and host immunity profiling.

Location:
London, UCL GOS Institute of Child Health

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD/DPhil in life sciences (molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, virology, or a related area)
  • Experience with NGS wet lab workflows, preferably with Nanopore and/or Illumina technologies
  • Proficiency in molecular biology methods (PCR, qPCR/dPCR, nucleic acid extraction, cloning)
  • Experience with hybridization-capture NGS workflows and development of NGS wet lab protocols is desirable
  • Experience in pathogen (viral/bacterial) nucleic acid extraction is preferred

Job Description:
The appointee will engage in a multi-institutional and multidisciplinary project designed to revolutionize the understanding and management of patients facing serious infectious diseases. Responsibilities include leading the implementation of metagenomic methods within NHS diagnostic labs. The initial contract will be for 16 months, with further funding being pursued to extend the position by an additional 2 years.
