Postdoctoral Researcher at McGill University: McGill University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to develop a new large-scale, custom-designed digital signal processing readout system for the ATLAS experiment located at the CERN laboratory in Switzerland. This role involves collaboration with researchers in both Physics and Computer and Electrical Engineering, leveraging innovative technologies and methodologies.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Education: PhD in Electronics/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Experimental Subatomic Physics, or related fields.
  • Experience: Relevant research experience in firmware programming (e.g., with VHDL) and resource optimization for specific FPGA architectures. Additional experience with high-level synthesis and/or compilation is considered a plus.
  • Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a research environment.
  • Ability to analyze research data and present findings effectively.

Job Description:

  • Develop a prototype hardware implementation of different digital signal processing algorithms on FPGA, optimizing for improved resolution of real-time energy measurements made by the ATLAS Liquid Argon Calorimeter system.
  • Utilize novel high-level synthesis approaches based on functional programming abstractions to optimize machine learning models and digital signal processing algorithms according to resource constraints.
  • Collaborate closely with researchers at McGill and international partners, employing industry-standard tools to ensure prototype quality and reliability.
