Eligibility/Qualification
- An MSc degree in a relevant field such as Mechanical, Materials, or Aerospace Engineering.
- Strong interest and knowledge in composite materials design and characterization.
- Background in computational mechanics, finite element modeling, or composite materials is desirable.
- English proficiency with a minimum IELTS score of 7 or equivalent for international students.
Job Description
This PhD position is part of a Vidi project focusing on the development of a new class of composites that can “sleep”, enhancing structural life and resilience while lowering costs.
Roles:
- PhD1: Multiscale Modelling and Dormant Design
- Develop and validate novel dormant design concepts for composite materials.
- Design fiber-reinforced architectures with dormant behavior.
- Perform multiscale finite element simulations using AI and FEM.
- PhD2: Advanced Manufacturing and Characterization
- Translate modeling concepts into manufacturable hybrid composites.
- Address real-world processing challenges in combining thermoplastic and thermoset matrices.
- Utilize state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities including 3D printing and automated fiber placement.
Candidates will collaborate closely with esteemed faculty members including Prof. Bert Sluys and Prof. Clemens Dransfeld.
