Eligibility/Qualification

To be successful in this role, candidates should have:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in bioengineering, biomechanics, or a related field.
  • Experience in nanoindentation, wear modeling, and insect experimental work.
  • Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • A commitment to collaborative and inclusive research.

Job Description

The Research Associate will:

  • Utilize a state-of-the-art nanoindenter to characterize the material properties and wear resistance of insect mandibles under various conditions.
  • Implement a novel method to assess mandible wear for vibrating versus non-vibrating mandibles.
  • Have the opportunity to supervise MEng/MSc students and engage in other teaching roles such as lecturing.
  • Participate in collaborative work at labs worldwide as part of the ERC team, led by Dr. David Labonte.

The position is offered for a fixed-term of 12 months initially, with the possibility of extension subject to research funding.
