PhD Position in Swarm Robotics: The Donders Centre for Cognition at Radboud University invites applications for a unique PhD position that explores the evolution of human language through state-of-the-art swarm robotics models. This research focuses on the ecological conditions influencing the emergence of language, grammar, and dishonest signaling in communication systems.
PhD Position in Language Evolution Using Swarm Robotics
Designation
PhD Candidate in Language Evolution Using Swarm Robotics
Table of Details
Category | Details |
---|---|
Research Area | Language Evolution, Swarm Robotics |
Location | Donders Centre for Cognition, Radboud University, Netherlands |
Eligibility | Master’s degree in relevant disciplines (e.g., Computer Science, AI, Robotics) |
Deadline | 14 August 2025 |
Research Area
The research will investigate the social, cognitive, and environmental pressures that contribute to the emergence and structure of language. By manipulating various ecological and social conditions, the project aims to uncover the unique pressures that promoted the emergence of grammar and dishonest signaling.
Location
Donders Centre for Cognition, Radboud University, Nijmegen, Netherlands.
Eligibility/Qualification
- A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Biology, Robotics).
- Experience with swarm robotics hardware and software (e.g., C++, ARGoS, Gazebo).
- Interest in language evolution, human evolution, and communication.
- Experience in data analysis, programming (R and/or Python), and complex statistical modeling.
- Experience in empirical research and Virtual Reality experiments is advantageous.
Description
The PhD candidate will develop and combine innovative tools to simulate language evolution in artificial 3D environments. The role involves designing and executing an interactive foraging-navigation game with swarm robotics and working closely with the VR lab to create comparable virtual worlds for experimental analysis.
