Eligibility/Qualification

To be eligible for the University of Pretoria Commonwealth Doctoral Scholarships, candidates must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Must be a citizen of a Commonwealth country (excluding South Africa).
  • Planning to begin studies at the University of Pretoria in the academic year 2026.
  • Submitted a separate application for admission to a doctoral program at UP.
  • Secured a potential supervisor at the University of Pretoria.
  • Completed a postgraduate or master’s degree within the last 2 years.
  • Must be under the age of 40 at the time of application.
  • Not currently registered in a PhD or Master’s degree or previously studied at UP.

Job Description

Successful candidates will receive fully funded scholarships covering:

  • Accommodation
  • Living expenses (190,000 ZAR)
  • Return flight tickets
  • Medical assistance
  • Fees (including application fee)
  • Books/stationery
  • Shuttle service on arrival
  • Study visa cost
