Eligibility/Qualification

  • Required:
  • Doctoral degree in a computationally oriented field (computer science, mathematics, statistics, physical sciences)
  • Expertise in machine learning and statistical data analysis
  • Proficient in implementing data analytics workflows using scientific programming languages (preferably Python, but R, Julia, or Rust are also acceptable)
  • Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary research team
  • Preferred:
  • Previous experience with spacecraft data
  • Deep knowledge of AI methods and their performance estimation
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux command line and Git repositories
  • Quality publications in computational sciences

Job Description

The successful candidate will work on the AIPAD project under the supervision of Prof. Tapio Pahikkala and Dr. Nina Dresing. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing innovative AI algorithms to infer full solar energetic particle (SEP) pitch-angle distributions from spacecraft measurements that currently have gaps.
  • Predicting energy spectra of SEP events using machine learning techniques and comparing predictions with observational data.
  • Contributing to open science initiatives and producing datasets, event catalogs, and advanced AI algorithms for the scientific community.
