Eligibility / Qualification
Minimum Education & Experience
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in an appropriate field.
- 0–5 years of relevant research experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related discipline (completed before appointment).
- Proven research creativity and productivity (e.g., publications, conference presentations).
- Expertise in multi-step organic synthesis, purification, and structural characterization.
- Prior experience in nucleic acid chemistry, nucleoside modification, or fluorescent probe development.
- Familiarity with spectroscopic and photophysical assays (e.g., fluorescence spectroscopy, binding assays).
- Experience mentoring students and working collaboratively across disciplines.
Job Description
The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will:
- Design and perform multi-step organic syntheses of novel nucleoside/nucleobase analogues and related molecules.
- Develop and apply synthetic chemistry methods for oligonucleotides and nucleic acids.
- Purify and characterize compounds using NMR, MS, and chromatography techniques.
- Evaluate photophysical and spectroscopic properties of molecular probes.
- Collaborate with biological and biophysical researchers to integrate synthetic probes into nucleic acid constructs or assays.
- Analyze data, troubleshoot experiments, and interpret results.
- Prepare manuscripts, reports, and presentations; contribute to research planning and mentoring.
- Participate in lab meetings, departmental seminars, and outreach activities.
This role supports the lab’s mission to advance next-generation tools for nucleic acid imaging and RNA-centered therapeutics.
