Eligibility / Qualification
Essential:
- Master’s degree (MSc) in Biology or a closely related field.
- Proven expertise in molecular plant–microbe interactions.
- Experience in fungal genetics, fluorescence imaging, and transcriptome data analysis.
- Excellent command of English (spoken and written).
Desirable:
- Strong motivation to explore plant–pathogen interactions.

Job Description
The selected PhD scholar will:
- Elucidate the biological and molecular functions of fungal transactivating effectors (TAEs).
- Investigate TAE function in maize leaf pathogens using the Ustilago maydis model system.
- Analyze how TAEs modulate host gene expression and contribute to pathogenicity.
- Study the evolutionary adaptation of TAEs in fungal plant pathogens.
