Eligibility/Qualification:
- Required:
- Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field (Ph.D. must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment, with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining).
- Proven organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work in laboratory environments with exposure to hazardous materials.
- Demonstrated written communication skills (at least one peer-reviewed publication, technical report, or grant application).
- Preferred:
- Proficiency in materials characterization methods (experience in at least two techniques like SEM, XPS, ICP, XRD, TEM).
- Knowledge of corrosion science demonstrated through coursework or research publications.
- Project management skills evidenced by planning and tracking a research project.
Job Description:
The Postdoctoral Associate will develop and apply novel experimental methods, advanced characterization techniques, and predictive modeling approaches to understand corrosion mechanisms and coolant/fuel chemistry in extreme conditions. Responsibilities include overseeing corrosion-focused projects sponsored by industry and/or the U.S. Department of Energy, collaborating with external partners, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. Additionally, this role is designed to foster professional growth towards an independent research career, with opportunities to publish, contribute to proposals, and gain experience in laboratory and project management.
