Postdoctoral: Materials Science and Engineering: The Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) department at the University of Arizona is seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Research Associate to engage in cutting-edge research combining experimental characterization with computational modeling of structural alloys.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field conferred by the time of hire.
  • First-author publications in major peer-reviewed journals on metallurgy or mechanics of materials.
  • Desired Qualifications:
  • Strong background in metallurgy, micromechanics, or crystal plasticity of metallic materials.
  • At least two years of hands-on experience in microstructure characterization, metallography, mechanical testing, or non-destructive evaluation.
  • Familiarity with finite element methods (e.g., ABAQUS).
  • Programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or C++.
  • Experience with machine learning or signal processing is a plus.

Job Description:

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research.
  • Design experiments, develop models, and analyze results.
  • Maintain accurate records of methods, data, and results.
  • Present findings at internal group/project meetings.
  • Support the development of lab protocols, workflows, and best practices.
  • Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and contribute to conference presentations.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students and provide training on experiments, simulations, and data analysis.
  • Contribute to grant proposal writing and identify new funding opportunities.
