The Distel Laboratory at Northeastern University’s Marine Science Center is seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate the ecology, evolution, and cell biology of symbiotic relationships between wood-eating shipworms and their bacterial endosymbionts.

Eligibility/Qualification
- Ph.D. in microbiology, molecular biology, marine biology, or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience in microbial genomics, microscopy, or symbiosis research.
Job Description
The successful candidate will:
- Conduct research on host-symbiont interactions utilizing advanced microscopy, molecular genetics, and metagenomic approaches.
- Explore the roles of carbohydrate-active enzymes and antimicrobial compounds produced by bacterial partners in structuring and defending the symbiotic relationship.
- Work in a laboratory environment capable of culturing both hosts and symbionts under controlled conditions.
This position is initially for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding, starting at or before January 2026.
