Research Area
You’ll work at the intersection of deep learning, data science, and biotechnology, focusing on topics such as:

Research may be conducted both at GUGC (Korea) and Ghent University’s home campus (Belgium).

Eligibility / Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Hold, or expect to hold by March 2026, a Master’s degree in:
Computer Science/Engineering, Informatics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields - Demonstrate strong academic performance
- Show excellent programming ability (C++, Python, Rust, or R)
- Have experience in scientific computing and machine learning
- Have a solid command of English (TOEFL iBT ≥ 80)
- Be comfortable presenting research and working in multicultural teams
Additional notes:
- Experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras) is an asset.
- Non-Korean applicants must show three years of post-master’s relevant experience unless exempted by visa categories or Korean degrees.
- Diploma assessment is required for non-Belgian Master’s degrees.
Job Description
Teaching Responsibilities (approx. 50%)
- Support informatics and bioinformatics courses
- Conduct lab sessions and supervise computer-based exercises
- Assist in developing assignments, exams, and course material
- Grade student work
- Supervise bachelor projects and occasional master’s theses
Research Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research in deep machine learning with applications in:
- Biomedical image analysis, or
- Biomolecule design and characterization
- Prepare a detailed doctoral research proposal within six months
- Present work at meetings, seminars, and conferences
- Publish in international peer-reviewed journals
- Contribute to R&D proposals and collaborations
- Participate in European project opportunities (where applicable)
