Postdoctoral Associate at Virginia Tech: The Kohl Center in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at Virginia Tech is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Associate specializing in Data Science/Applied Econometrics. Eligibility/Qualification

  • Required:
  • PhD in agricultural and applied economics, economics, data science, econometrics, statistics, computer science, operations research, public policy, or closely related field (candidates nearing completion may apply).
  • Proficiency in R, including R shiny, and other data science tools (e.g., Git).
  • Research experience with modern data-analytical tools.
  • Experience or coursework connecting data science/statistics/econometrics with social sciences.
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications or advanced working papers.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Preferred:
  • Expertise in areas such as agricultural economics, health economics, policy analysis, or applied econometrics.
  • Strong quantitative skills and experience with machine learning techniques.
  • Proficiency in Stata and/or Python.
  • Experience with large structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Engagement experience with stakeholders.

Job Description

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop a robust applied research program at the intersection of data science/econometrics and social sciences.
  • Produce academic and policy-relevant publications and secure external funding for research projects.
  • Engage stakeholders through training, workshops, and hands-on projects.
  • Advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, with opportunities to teach.
