HIAS Fellowships 2027-2028: The Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS) invites applications for its Fellowships for the academic year 2027-2028. This program seeks outstanding scholars, scientists, and artists from all disciplines and backgrounds to engage in interdisciplinary research and creative projects in Hamburg.


Designation

  • Position Title: HIAS Fellow
  • Location: Hamburg, Germany
  • Duration: Minimum of 3 months (September to June, excluding July and August)

Research Area

  • Interdisciplinary research across humanities, social sciences, and natural/life sciences
  • Artistic and cultural projects engaging with research topics beyond specific disciplines

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Minimum Requirement: Doctorate (PhD)
  • Significant academic or artistic achievements
  • Strong command of English
  • Early-career and underrepresented individuals are particularly encouraged to apply.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and conduct innovative research or artistic projects.
  • Collaborate with a tandem partner from Hamburgโ€™s academic or cultural institutions.
  • Engage in the academic and cultural life of the city through required participation in weekly meetings and public events.
  • Convey planned project topics to a broader audience.

Opportunities:

  • Fully equipped workspace and continuous assistance by HIAS staff.
  • Stipend or reimbursement of costs for teaching replacements (if applicable).
  • Possibility for family-friendly living conditions and support in accommodation matters.
