Postdoc in Biology: The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to contribute to sustainable krill fishery management in the Southern Ocean. This position focuses on the analysis of krill populations and the impact of environmental changes and fishing pressure.

ExperienceBackground in Antarctic research is beneficial but not essential
CollaborationExcellent teamwork and communication capabilities

Job Description

The successful candidate will:

  • Analyze data from krill fishing operations.
  • Explore potential impacts of the krill fishery on krill populations.
  • Utilize empirical approaches and simulation models to assess various fishing scenarios, including:
  • Environmental changes (e.g., temperature)
  • Shifting population dynamics of major krill predators (e.g., whales, penguins, seals)
  • Different fishing pressures on krill stages (e.g., juveniles, gravid females)
  • Analyze hydroacoustic data to characterize seasonal krill flux.
