Research Area

  • Investigation of cancer stem cells and the molecular mechanisms regulating their functionality.
  • Focus on the role of SOX2 in transcription and translation, contributing to a deeper understanding of cancer progression.

Location

  • Department of Biomedicine, Mattenstrasse 28, 4057 Basel, Switzerland.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Candidates must have a PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field.
  • MD PhDs with a strong interest in disease pathology are encouraged to apply.
  • A solid research track in protein and RNA biochemistry is required. Experience in ribosome research is beneficial but not essential.
  • A good command of English is necessary; knowledge of German is helpful.
  • International experience (internship, PhD, or postdoctoral position abroad) is preferred.

Job Description

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will:

  • Isolate and molecularly characterize SOX2/ribosome complexes.
  • Analyze the molecular composition, transcript load, and structure of thus identified “stemness ribosomes.”
  • Utilize advanced techniques such as density gradient centrifugation, ribosome profiling, affinity purification, RNA extraction, and library cloning.
  • Collaborate with DBM core facilities and international partners, expanding technological capabilities (e.g., HPLC/MS, RIBOseq, cryo-EM).
  • Contribute to the definition of pharmacological intervention sites at the SOX2/ribosome interface.

How to Apply

To apply, submit the following documents:

  1. CV
  2. A meaningful motivation letter
  3. Copies of relevant certificates (diplomas/degrees)
  4. One selected publication representative of your work
  5. Contact details of at least one reference (preferably your last employer or academic supervisor)

All applications will be processed, and selected candidates will be invited for an on-site interview.
