Eligibility/Qualification
- Required:
- Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics, or a related field by the anticipated starting date (May 4, 2026).
- Prior research experience in extragalactic astrophysics, large datasets, SED model fitting.
- Proficiency in Python coding.
- Preferred:
- Experience with modeling strong galaxy-galaxy lenses.
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques.
- Expertise in Python software development.
Job Description
The selected candidate will:
- Lead the development of a Python tool to optimize the extraction of photometry and spectra of strong lens systems in the Euclid mission.
- Use this tool to measure dark matter components of massive galaxies and correlate these measurements with other physical properties.
- Analyze data, interpret results, and publish outcomes of research.
- Engage in independent research within a vibrant astrophysical community.
Access to observing facilities, including Palomar, will be available.
