Postdoctoral in Organic Chemistry: Durham University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to work in the Franchino group within the Department of Chemistry. This 8-month fixed-term position combines research at Durham University and a secondment at Chiesi Farmaceutici in Parma, Italy.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Qualifications:
  1. A good first degree in Chemistry or a closely related subject.
  2. A PhD (or nearing submission) in Chemistry.
  • Experience:
  1. Conducting high-quality research in organic or organometallic chemistry.
  2. Co-authored at least 2 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  3. Presenting research papers at national/international conferences.
  4. Experience in homogeneous catalysis and complex organic synthesis.
  • Skills:
  1. Ability to work cooperatively within a team.
  2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  3. Strong drive and motivation for research.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Allegra Franchino on a collaborative project funded by the EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research on phosphine ligands for nickel-catalyzed reactions.
  • Preparing and characterizing new ligands and their nickel complexes.
  • Testing ligands in C–C and C–X bond-forming reactions.
  • Preparing high-quality research reports and presenting research findings.
  • Engage in collaborative project development and support inclusivity in a research environment.
