Doctoral Researcher (PhD Student): The University of Eastern Finland is seeking a motivated Doctoral Researcher (PhD Student) for a research project focused on the development and understanding of aqueous-based binders and their application in Ni-rich cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries. This position will enhance the sustainability of battery manufacturing and improve performance.

Eligibility / Qualification

RequirementDetails
DegreeMaster’s degree in chemistry, physics, material science, engineering, electrochemistry, or related field.
Language ProficiencyGood command of written and spoken English
ExperienceExtensive hands-on experience with material characterization techniques and analytical skills.
Additional SkillsPrevious research in batteries, experience with aqueous binders, and advanced characterization methods are advantageous.

Job Description

  • Conduct material and binder design, comprehensive characterization, electrode fabrication, and electrochemical measurements.
  • Evaluate material recovery and perform high-quality research with dissemination of results through publications and presentations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and industry partners through shared materials, data exchange, and joint analysis.
  • The position is for three years, starting from April 1, 2026, or as agreed, with a trial period for all new staff.

Salary

Approximately EUR 2,650 – 2,785/month based on a job-related salary element and a personal salary element.
