Eligibility/Qualification

CriterionDetails
EducationMaster’s degree in Engineering (Bioscience, Electrical/Computer, Mechanical), Computer Science, Applied Math/Statistics, Physics, or related fields. Candidates nearing graduation are also encouraged to apply.
SkillsStrong foundation in machine learning/deep learning, solid Python skills. Interest in computer vision, representation learning, context-aware AI, active learning/DOE, MLOps.
LanguageExcellent communication in English; Dutch is advantageous but not required.
Personal QualitiesCuriosity, independence, and enthusiasm to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Job Description

As a PhD researcher, you will:

  • Contribute to the design of AI methods integrating computer vision outputs from insect trap imagery and contextual data.
  • Ensure the robustness and interpretability of AI systems.
  • Enable reliable risk prediction and decision support in varying environmental conditions.
  • Collaborate closely with partners from KU Leuven, Flemish practice centres, and industry stakeholders.
