The Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW Dresden) invites applications for a Doctoral Researcher position in the field of hybrid 2D superconducting/magnetic quantum devices. This exciting opportunity allows candidates to work on cutting-edge van der Waals heterostructures, combining magnetism and superconductivity, at the Superpuddles lab in Dresden in collaboration with the QTLab at the University of Naples Federico II.

Designation: Doctoral Researcher (PhD Candidate)

Research Area: Hybrid 2D superconducting/magnetic quantum devices, spintronics, van der Waals heterostructures, cryogenic stacking, quantum materials fabrication and transport/spectroscopic studies.

Location: Dresden, Germany (IFW Dresden, Institute of Metallic Materials, Superpuddles Lab)

Eligibility / Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering, or Quantum Science & Technology.
  • Strong interest in fundamental science and quantum materials research.
  • Excellent team-player, highly motivated and ambitious.
  • Good written and spoken English communication skills.

Job Description:

AspectDetails
Project FocusDevelop hybrid 2D superconducting/magnetic quantum devices using van der Waals materials. Conduct transport, spectroscopic, and advanced fabrication methodologies.
CollaborationWork closely with international teams at IFW Dresden and QTLab, University of Naples Federico II.
TechniquesCryogenic stacking in inert and ultrahigh vacuum environments for ultraclean interfaces, device fabrication, and transport measurements.
Employment TypeFixed-term contract: 12 months initially, extendable up to 3 years subject to midterm evaluation.
