Eligibility/Qualification

  • Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree at a 2.1 level (or non-UK equivalent) in Engineering or a relevant science discipline.
  • English Language Requirement: IELTS 6.5 Overall (with no component below 5.5) or Swansea University-recognized equivalent.

Job Description

The selected PhD student will work on:

  • Synthesizing polymeric composites (e.g., natural rubbers with conductive particles).
  • Conducting microscopic and rheological characterizations.
  • Performing mechanical tests (viscoelastic, fatigue-fracture tests).
  • Testing polymeric composites for electric and magnetic actuations.
  • Targeting applications in smart vehicles, including:
  • Changing tread pattern or groove depth
  • Enhancing aerodynamics and surface textures
  • Noise cancellation (vibration)
  • Modifying mechanical properties (hardness)

Resources include advanced soft polymer fabrication (3D/4D printing) and characterisation equipment.
