Eligibility & Qualifications
- Academic Background: A UK 1st Class or 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in materials science, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, robotics, or a related discipline. A Masterโs degree is also acceptable.
- Citizenship: Applicants must hold UK or EU citizenship to qualify for this specific scholarship.
- Skills: Strong knowledge in design, materials, and manufacturing. Experience or interest in 3D printing, CAD, smart materials, polymer composites, or modelling is advantageous.
Job Description
The successful candidate will investigate shape-memory polymer composites and related smart material systems fabricated via advanced additive manufacturing. Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, printing, and testing adaptive structural elements.
- Exploring energy-efficient activation strategies (e.g., controlled thermal/electro-thermal activation, integrated conductive features).
- Conducting experimental work combined with modelling and design-of-experiments to establish reliable design rules.
- Collaborating with academic partners in the UK and France to contribute to next-generation adaptive structures.
