Research Areas & Projects

Applicants may apply for one or more of the following five multidisciplinary projects:

  • Project A: Sensing the breaking point: Decoding the inputs to a cell wall integrity receptor in Chlorella vulgaris.
  • Project B: Decoding the Hidden Logic of RNA Polymerase Allocation Under Stress.
  • Project C: Adaptive immunity as an evolutionary response to unforeseen stress.
  • Project D: Multitrophic interaction networks as drivers of competitor coexistence under global change.
  • Project E: From training load to adaptation: Modeling of stress, resilience, and performance in elite female athletes.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Education: Completion of a doctoral degree (or equivalent). Priority is given to those who received their degree within the last three years (extensions considered for documented special reasons like parental leave or illness).
  • Expertise: Candidates should have a strong background in fields such as computational/mathematical modeling, statistical modeling, machine learning, network science, bioinformatics, applied mathematics, biophysics, systems biology, or related experimental sciences.
  • Skills: Strong drive, critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Language: Excellent proficiency in oral and written English.

Job Description

Successful candidates will join IceLab and be hosted by specific departments based on their project. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to:

  • Develop mechanistic or mathematical models for complex biological systems.
  • Integrate theoretical approaches with experimental data.
  • Participate in IceLab’s interdisciplinary activities, such as lunch pitches and camps.
  • Bridge the gap between theoretical research and empirical application.
