PhD Opportunity: Polaronic Dynamics of Photo-electrocatalysts, CNRS, France

PhD Open Position in Organic Chemistry, CNRS, France

This PhD position at the Institut de Recherches sur la Catalyse et l’Environnement de Lyon (IRCELYON) focuses on the quantitative characterization of photo-excited carriers in TiO₂ and SrTiO₃ photo-electrocatalysts. This interdisciplinary project, funded by the CNRS, aims to understand polaronic mobility and surface photochemistry through advanced spectroscopy across various timescales.

Research Area

Investigating polaronic dynamics and carrier mobility in photo-electrocatalysts using multi-scale, time-resolved spectroscopy.

Physical chemistry, theoretical and analytic.

Eligibility & Qualification

  • Education: BAC+5 (Master’s degree or equivalent).
  • Additional: The offer is open to people with a document recognizing their status as a disabled worker.

Job Description

The project aims to distinguish between mobile polarons and trapped states that limit photocatalytic efficiency in TiO₂ and SrTiO₃. Key responsibilities include:

  • Materials Synthesis: Independent control of phase, doping, and defects at IRCELYON.
  • Spectroscopic Characterization: Utilizing UV/XPS and THz spectroscopy in static and photonic excitation modes.
  • Large-Scale Experiments: Participating in campaigns at international facilities, including time-resolved photoemission (tr-PES) at the European XFEL and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) at the SOLEIL synchrotron.
  • Data Analysis: Processing large data volumes from XFEL experiments and contributing to multimodal analysis.

Note: The candidate must be available to travel to large-scale research facilities.
