Job Description & Objectives

The successful candidate will join the Department of Electrical Engineering to bridge the gap between AI learning algorithms, emerging memory technologies, and hardware architecture. Core research responsibilities include:

  • Developing FPGA-based emulation and prototyping frameworks to fast-track design-space exploration.
  • Designing energy-efficient, adaptive, and scalable neuromorphic SoC architectures integrating CiM technologies.
  • Investigating security mechanisms for AI accelerators, including side-channel resistance and secure on-chip learning.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams spanning circuit design, computer architecture, and AI.
  • Dedication to academic development, including spending 10% to 15% of the employment time on teaching tasks and coaching students.

Eligibility & Qualifications

To be considered for this MSCA doctoral position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Background: Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering with excellent academic grades.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong foundation in Digital/Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuit (IC) design and Computer Architecture.
  • Software Skills: Solid capabilities in HDLs (Verilog, VHDL) and scripting languages (Python, TCL), alongside experience using commercial EDA tools (Cadence/Mentor Graphics).
  • MSCA Mobility Rule: You must not have resided or carried out your main activity in the Netherlands for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the recruitment date.
  • Degree Restriction: You must not already possess a doctoral degree.
  • Language: Fluency in spoken and written English (C1 level minimum).
  • Preferred Assets: Prior knowledge of low-power IC design and neuromorphic architectures is highly advantageous.
