Position Summary

This full-time doctoral position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to top-quality medical precision medicine. Hosted by the research group of Professor Maja Jagodic and integrated into the Data-Driven Life Sciences (DDLS) Research School, the project aims to advance the molecular understanding of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) progression. The successful candidate will combine genetic, epigenetic, and clinical data using advanced bioinformatics and AI-based analytical approaches in an interactive, international research environment.

Job Description & Key Duties

As a doctoral student, you will devote yourself to a translational research project under the supervision of experienced researchers following an individual study plan. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Analyzing large-scale omics datasets.
  • Developing, implementing, and applying statistical methods and interpretable AI/machine learning models.
  • Identifying biological markers and molecular mechanisms associated with MS disease progression.
  • Actively participating in (and eventually leading) project design, scientific writing, and presentations.
  • Attending postgraduate courses and participating in national DDLS graduate school activities.

Eligibility & Qualifications

A) General Eligibility

To qualify for doctoral education in Sweden, you must meet one of the following by the application deadline:

  1. Hold a second-cycle/advanced/Masterโ€™s qualification (Master’s degree), OR
  2. Have completed course requirements of at least 240 credits (ECTS), of which at least 60 credits were awarded at the advanced/Master’s level, OR
  3. Have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in Sweden or abroad.

B) Specific Eligibility & Technical Skills

  • Language: High proficiency in spoken and written English (equivalent to English 6/English B at Swedish upper secondary school).
  • Education: A Masterโ€™s degree in computational biology, data science, bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Programming: Strong programming skills in Python, R, and Linux-based software.
  • Technical Experience: Proficiency with modern machine learning/deep learning frameworks, high-performance parallel computing (e.g., UPPMAX), and GPUs.
  • Desirable (Advantageous): Experience in genetic/omics data analysis, visualization, network theory applications, and working within international consortia.
