Eligibility & Qualifications

Educational Schemes

  • Option A (Regular 3-Year PhD): Requires a completed degree equivalent to a relevant Danish Master’s degree (180 ECTS BSc + 120 ECTS MSc).
  • Option B (Integrated 3+5 MSc/PhD): Open to applicants holding a degree equivalent to a relevant Danish Bachelor’s degree (enrolls in the MSc program alongside the PhD).

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong academic background in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience with image analysis, computer vision, scientific computing, or machine learning methods.
  • Programming proficiency, preferably in Python or similar scientific computing environments.
  • Solid mathematical maturity and interest in structural descriptors and interpretable visual representations.
  • Good written and spoken English language skills.

Job Description & Responsibilities

  • Conduct an independent research project under expert supervision focusing on structure-aware representations of complex materials.
  • Develop, benchmark, and evaluate quantitative methods that relate visual representations to physical material properties.
  • Collaborate closely with domain experts in materials science and imaging infrastructures (such as QIM, Euro-BioImaging, and the Pioneer Centre for AI).
  • Complete PhD coursework equivalent to approx. 30 ECTS credits.
  • Participate in research stays at collaborating partner institutions, including opportunities abroad.
  • Engage in teaching, knowledge dissemination, and write scientific papers for high-impact journals culminating in a PhD thesis defense.
