Eligibility

  • Desirable Skills: Prior hands-on experience with live-cell imaging is considered an advantage.

Scholarship Description

The bacterial Type 6 secretion system (T6SS) is one of the largest dynamic assemblies in Gram-negative bacteria, functioning as a nanomachine to deliver folded proteins into neighboring bacterial or eukaryotic cells. While recent breakthroughs have identified how T6SS regulates spatial positioning, responds to attacks, and interacts with hosts, the fundamental mechanical understanding of how precise timing and spatial localization are achieved remains unknown.

The selected PhD student will work to uncover the specific signals that trigger T6SS assembly. The position offers a highly interactive, multidisciplinary environment combining expertise in molecular microbiology, biochemistry, imaging, and infection biology, alongside outstanding support from specialized Biozentrum core facilities.
