Research Area

Eligibility & Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline obtained within the past 5 years.
- Experience Limit: Per BNL policy, candidates must not exceed a combined total of 5 years of relevant postdoctoral/R&D work experience post-Ph.D. (excluding qualifying personal leaves).
- Technical Background: Demonstrated research experience in Quantum Information Science, particularly in quantum error correction.
- Analytical & Computational Skills: Strong aptitude for analytical/theoretical work and efficient coding for simulation and testing.
- Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills with a proven track record of academic publications and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with topological codes.
- Expertise in tensor networks.
- Experience training AI/ML models, specifically Graph Neural Networks (GNNs).
- Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) workflows.
Job Description & Essential Duties
- Theoretical Investigation: Collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) on projects focused on designing and analyzing novel topological quantum error correcting codes.
- Tool Development: Devise and apply mathematical and analytical frameworks; implement coding and computational pipelines to simulate and validate theoretical models.
- Algorithm & Hardware Co-Design: Explore co-design strategies linking quantum algorithms and error mitigation/correction to target hardware platforms.
- Dissemination & Collaboration: Write scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, present findings at national/international conferences, and actively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across BNL and partner institutions.
- Lab Standards: Comply with operational safety, ethical conduct, and Department of Energy (DOE) clearance/identity verification protocols.
