Summary
The Hultgren Laboratory at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, KTH, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to focus on the microstructural characterization of sustainable metallic materials using state-of-the-art transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and supplementary tools. Eligibility / Qualifications
Requirements:
- Degree: A doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree in materials science, materials physics, materials characterization, or a closely related area (must be met by the time of the employment decision).
- Technical Experience: Demonstrated hands-on experience in TEM characterization of metallic materials, including specimen preparation, data acquisition, and analysis.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English (spoken and written) for day-to-day research and collaboration.
- Personal Competencies: Self-motivated, strong initiative, analytical/problem-solving mindset, and well-developed collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A doctoral degree obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
- Experience with Automated Crystallographic Orientation Mapping (ACOM) and in-situ experiments.
- Familiarity with complementary characterization techniques (e.g., FIB-SEM, APT).
- Strong background in physical metallurgy and solid-state phase transformations.

Job Description
- Conduct advanced microstructural characterization using a cutting-edge high-throughput STEM equipped with integrated laser heating, in-situ straining, and ACOM tools.
- Perform research geared toward enhanced materials sustainability (e.g., developing metallic materials for automotive electrification, hydrogen-tolerant materials for fossil-free energy systems, and high-performance recycled alloys).
- Engage in both methodology development and specific materials science applications to understand structure-property correlations.
- Collaborate closely with both academic and industrial partners across Sweden and internationally.
