Call for Applications for the NNF-IAS Fellowship Programme
The eight Nordic Institutes for Advanced Studies invite applications for the first NNF-IAS Fellowship Programme call on Health and Sustainability, supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Five fully salaried, 23-month fellowships are available to talented international researchers from any discipline under the sub-theme Inequity in Health.

Research Area
The call welcomes projects from all research disciplines that seek to understand health disparities, inequities, and the wider relationship between health and the environment. Relevant topics may include, but are not limited to:
- Structural and social determinants of health inequities from Nordic and global perspectives
- Health innovations and technologies
- Equal opportunities and access to health
- Health challenges associated with environmental developments
- Interdisciplinary approaches to health and sustainability
Location
Selected fellows will be primarily affiliated with one of the four main partner Institutes for Advanced Studies in Denmark, Finland, Norway or Sweden: AIAS, HCAS, CAS or SCAS. Applicants must rank their preferred host institute and be willing to reside in the host country throughout the fellowship.
Fellows will collaborate across the Nordic institutes, participate in regular meetings and programme activities, and may occasionally travel to other Nordic Institutes for Advanced Studies.
Eligibility and Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a researcher of any nationality and from any academic discipline, with a research profile that fits the thematic scope of the call.
- Have between two and ten years of career experience after completing a PhD. The PhD training period is not included when calculating experience.
- Meet the mobility requirement: applicants must not have lived or conducted their main work activity in the country of their priority host institute for more than 12 months during the two years immediately preceding the application deadline.
- Be willing to participate in an interdisciplinary and cross-Nordic research initiative.
- Demonstrate mobility and be prepared to reside in the host institute’s country for the full fellowship period.
- Show intellectual curiosity and a willingness to engage actively across disciplinary boundaries.
Scholarship Description
The NNF-IAS Fellowship Programme is designed to strengthen Nordic research environments in health and sustainability through interdisciplinary collaboration. Fellows will conduct independent research while working as part of a thematic group focused on Inequity in Health.
Each fellow will join the academic community at the selected host institute and gain access to an international, multidisciplinary research environment. The programme includes interdisciplinary training, collaboration across Nordic institutions, academic workshops, conferences and career-development opportunities.
