Scholarship Description

The IMPRS-FMD offers a pioneering interdisciplinary doctoral training program in sustainable functional materials. It provides a collaborative network involving the Max Planck Institute with the University of Potsdam, Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and Technische Universität Berlin. Key features of the program include:

• Cross-institutional research: Engaging in joint projects, an IMPRS conference, and a lecture series on advanced topics and methods.
• Bridging disciplines: Offering MSc-level courses to build shared foundational knowledge across physics, chemistry, biochemistry, materials engineering, and mathematics.
• Structured training: Incorporating lectures, courses, conferences, and an annual, self-organized doctoral retreat.
• Supervision and mentoring: Provided by Teaching Faculty (with doctoral supervision rights) and Associate Faculty (emerging leaders).
• Competitive, fully funded positions: The program supports 23 doctoral researchers with 4-year contracts. University-employed students also receive an MPI guest contract and office space.
