Summary
The University of Oxford is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in molecular lanthanide chemistry. This position, funded by EPSRC, involves the synthesis and characterisation of molecular lanthanide complexes to develop physical inorganic principles for controlling optical linewidths and oscillator strengths. The role is part of a collaborative project with UCLA and offers up to 3 years of research.
Designation
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Research Area
- Inorganic Chemistry
- Molecular Lanthanide Chemistry
- Synthesis and characterisation of molecular lanthanide complexes
- Controlling optical linewidths and oscillator strengths
Location
Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QR, UK
Eligibility/Qualification
- A PhD in Inorganic Chemistry or a relevant subject area (or close to completion) prior to taking up the appointment.
- Experience in synthetic inorganic chemistry.
- Experience in characterisation of paramagnetic inorganic complexes.
- Ability to manage own academic research and administrative activities, including small-scale project management and meeting deadlines.
Job Description
Working under the supervision of Professor Michael Neidig, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will:
- Design and synthesize new lanthanide coordination complexes.
- Characterise these complexes with the goal of establishing generalised design rules across the lanthanide series for controlling optical linewidths and oscillator strengths.
- Undertake ligand design and synthesis.
- Perform lanthanide complexation and isolation.
