Summary
The Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III (F.S.P.) (CNIC) is seeking an outstanding Principal Investigator at the Full Professor Level III to lead a research line in the field of cerebrovascular disease. This is a temporary position under the Spanish employment category “Contrato de Investigador/a Distinguido/a.” The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and leading a research laboratory, securing competitive funding, publishing in high-impact journals, and supervising a research team.

Job Description
The successful candidate will:
- Lead and develop the research lines of their laboratory.
- Secure extramural funding from highly competitive national and international sources.
- Publish scientific results in high-impact international journals in cardiovascular research, general medicine, and/or multidisciplinary sciences.
- Supervise all members of the research team, including research and technical staff.
- Participate in coordination and management tasks, committees, and other institutional needs as requested by CNIC leadership.
Eligibility and Qualifications
Mandatory Requirements:
- Education: PhD in Life Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Medicine, etc.).
- Experience as Group Leader: At least 10 years in an internationally recognized research center in the cardiovascular field. Reduced experience requirements for individuals with disabilities: 6 years and 8 months for disability > 66%, and 8 years and 4 months for disability > 33%.
- Scientific Publication Record: Fulfilling at least one of the following criteria (bibliometric parameters according to Web of Science/Journal Citation Reports):
- ≥ 6 original articles as corresponding or co-corresponding author published in the last 5 years (since August 2021) in journals ranked in the first decile of their field.
- ≥ 1 original article as corresponding or co-corresponding author published in the last 5 years (since August 2021) in journals ranked in the TOP3 of their field.
- ≥ 1 original article as corresponding or co-corresponding author published in the last 5 years (since August 2021) classified as Highly Cited Paper according to Web of Science.
- Grant Experience: Experience as Principal Investigator and/or Coordinator of research grants obtained from international funding sources (outside Spain) during the last 5 years (since August 2021).
- Research Focus: Main research focus must be aligned with the field of cerebrovascular disease.
Valuable Requirements (Evaluation Criteria):
Candidates will be evaluated based on the following criteria, with percentages indicating their weight:
- Scientific Production (30%): Publications as corresponding/co-corresponding author in first decile journals during the last 5 years (since August 2021). Greater value for original research articles.
- Fundraising (International) (25%): Projects obtained from international funding sources as Principal Investigator or Coordinator during the last 5 years (since August 2021).
- Fundraising (National) (10%): Projects obtained from national funding sources as Principal Investigator or Coordinator during the last 5 years (since August 2021).
- International Recognition (10%): Participation in international committees, advisory boards, grant evaluation panels, invited lectures, and editorial boards during the last 5 years (since August 2021).
- Training and Mentoring (5%): Experience mentoring young researchers (PhD students, postdocs, MD trainees) and participation in training activities during the last 5 years (since August 2021).
- Impact on Society (5%): Translation of research discoveries into clinical practice, patents, industrial collaborations, and societal impact during the last 5 years (since August 2021).
- Cerebrovascular Focus (10%): Scientific publications and research projects specifically focused on cerebrovascular disease led as corresponding/co-corresponding author or Principal Investigator during the last 5 years (since August 2021).
- Gender Underrepresentation (5%): Positive action criterion in accordance with the 2021-2024 Equality Plan.
