Eligibility/Qualification
Required Qualifications:
- PhD or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Doctoral degree awarded no more than three years before the application deadline (consideration for earlier degrees with special grounds, e.g., statutory leave).
- Strong knowledge of pyrometallurgy, particularly gypsum valorization and high-temperature processes.
- Good proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Highly Desirable/Asset Qualifications:
- Experience with experimental work related to gas–solid reactions or high-temperature processing.
- Hands-on experience with analytical and characterization techniques such as X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), and related methods.
- Familiarity with thermodynamic and kinetic modeling tools.
Job Description
The Postdoctoral Researcher will join a research team focused on the green transition, particularly transforming mining and metallurgical residues and by-products into high-value products. The project involves combining advanced modeling with experimental work to understand and optimize the thermochemical conversion of gypsum into lime. Key duties include:
- Independently conducting both experimental and theoretical work related to gypsum valorization.
- Evaluation and reporting of results.
- Performing laboratory-scale experiments (e.g., thermochemical conversion of gypsum).
- Conducting thermodynamic and kinetic modeling.
- Utilizing materials characterization techniques such as XRD, SEM, and LOM.
- Collaborating with industrial partners and participating in joint investigations.
- Contributing to scientific publications and research proposals.
The position is based at Luleå University of Technology in Luleå, with opportunities for experimental work and trials in collaboration with industrial/international partners.
