Summary
A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Luigi Nezi at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan. The lab focuses on developing innovative approaches in cancer prevention and therapy by manipulating the microbiome. The successful candidate will integrate metagenomic, metabolomic, and functional data to decode the interplay between the microbiome and the host’s immune system during immunotherapy in various tumor types.

Job Description
The successful candidate will be involved in a project that integrates various omics data to understand microbiome-host immune interactions in cancer immunotherapy. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing computational approaches to analyze and integrate metagenomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic data from human samples.
- Building models to identify biotic and abiotic bacterial components capable of eliciting a systemic antitumor response.
- Developing 3D models of TCR-antigen interactions.
- Actively collaborating with a team that will validate findings using in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical models.
The project will involve skills such as Metagenomic whole (shotgun) genome sequencing, Genomic and transcriptomic analysis (bulk and single cell), Metabolomic analysis, TCR sequencing, Multiparametric Analysis of immunological data, and Imaging analysis.
Eligibility/Qualification
- Hold a PhD degree in Bioinformatics or a similar discipline with a strong computational or mathematical focus (e.g., Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics).
- Experience in developing efficient algorithms, ideally in optimization, network science, or machine learning.
- Good programming skills in a higher programming language and R.
- Experience working with cancer omics data.
- Expertise in analyzing metagenomic and metabolomic datasets and building AI-driven workflows is a plus.
- Strong scientific understanding of general research questions in molecular and cancer biology.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit their complete application, which must include:
- A Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- A short statement outlining research background and interests.
- Contact information for two references.
Applications should be sent directly to Dr. Luigi Nezi at luigi.nezi@ieo.it. Generic AI-written inquiries will be discarded.
