Research Area
This PhD project will delve into the simulation-based development of indirect combustion-noise theory, with a specific focus on hydrogen-fueled systems. Key aspects include:
- Utilizing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for numerical analyses.
- Focusing on non-reacting and reacting flow modeling.
- Investigating the interplay between vorticity, compositional, and entropy spots on indirect noise.
- Extending analytical/semi-analytical modeling to hydrogen combustion.
Research Objectives:
- CFD studies of vorticity inhomogeneities convected by a high-Reynolds-number flow through a choked nozzle under non-reactive simulations.
- Non-reactive Euler/URANS/LES-simulation comparison of entropy-vorticity interaction with a choked nozzle.
- Quantification of the effects of combustion on noise spectra.
- Development of analytical/semi-analytical models.
Expected Results:
- Understanding of vorticity/entropy interaction as a source of indirect noise.
- Comparison with classic hydrocarbon configurations.
- Development of an analytical model for indirect noise due to vorticity/entropy interactions.
Location
University of Twente, Drienerlolaan 5, 7522NB Enschede, Netherlands. The position also includes secondments to TU Delft (Netherlands) and ETH Zurich (Switzerland).
